Friday Fun

Whew!  Today has been a busy, fun, and exciting day at Leon Sheffield!

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, so students from Mr. Holmes' class took their study materials outside.

This year, a team of fifth graders will be creating a school-wide newspaper.

Deangelo McDaniel from the Decatur Daily came today to help the students brainstorm.

Thanks, Mr. McDaniel for coming to spend some time with our students!

Mr. Sanders did a demonstration with the fifth grade students using electricity and magnets.

Mr. Sanders made learning come to life, by playing his electric guitar to show how electricity moves between the amplifier and guitar.

Until next time,

5th Grade Talent Show

Our amazing fifth graders showed off their talents last week.

Libby Morgan dancing to "Earth Song."

Parker Deke and Parker VanDine entertained the audience with a puppet show.

Jake showed us a magic trick.

A cheerleading act by a group of fifth grade girls.

Trianna Carlisle danced to, "Girl on Fire."

Caleb Smith played a piano medley.

Classmates were encouraging each other as they walked up to the stage.

Members of the audience were having a great time!

We saw fifth graders draw while music was playing, and even twirl batons and flags.

What a talented group of fifth graders we have at Leon Sheffield!  We can't wait to see what the third and fourth graders have in store for us later in the year!

Until next time,

Leadership Day

This past Wednesday, Leon Sheffield hosted Student Council Leadership Day.  More than 130 students from across North Alabama, and their student council sponsors came to learn the importance of school leadership, and how they can make a difference in their school.

Members of the LSMS Junior Lighthouse Team greeted everyone that came into the building.

Here is the 2012-2013 LSMS Junior Lighthouse Team with Dr. Poovey, and Dr. Bice, the state superintendent.

Dr. Nichols introduced Dr. Bice.

Students and administrators also divided into groups to learn more about etiquette, fundraising, mentoring, and more.

Thanks to all the volunteers, speakers, faculty, staff, and students for a great day!

Until next time,
